Did you know that the delicious summer melon Galia is not a variety of its own, but a cross between two varieties?
In 1970 Zvi Karchi crossed the Cantaloupe and Honeydew melon varieties. Its name means “wave” in Israelite, they could not have chosen a better name.
It is characterised by a very sweet taste in a small size. That’s why it’s perfect to take to the beach or any summer outing. It provides energy due to its source of carbohydrates while being low in calories. It is very refreshing like all melon and watermelon varieties, and its flavour makes it perfect for light and tasty breakfasts and snacks. Its high water content helps to eliminate toxins.
Its properties include its high carotene content, which favours healing. It also has a high vitamin E content, which helps to care for the heart. It also has properties that help to control cholesterol and hypertension.
Its skin is thin and yellowish. This makes it easy to cut and eat, as its pulp is not too hard either. It has the ability to melt in the mouth, which is why for us it is the sweetest snack of the summer.
